Mr Paddy Timoney V Degree - 11/11/2012

Mr Patrick Joseph Timoney V Degree 1970-2012

It is with great sadness that we say our husband, father, friend and fellow Taekwon-Do’ist Mr Patrick J Timoney passed on to the next life on Sunday 11th November  2012,  doing what he loved best; Taekwon-Do.

Mr Timoney affectionately known as ‘Paddy’ was performing Sam-Il whilst testing for his 5th Degree, surrounded by his family and friends.

Patrick was a larger than life character a generous and genuine man who had a special aura surrounding him, his outlook on life was one of the best and he could brighten up anyone’s day.  He had an infectious smile and a wicked sense of humour which many of us felt and heard first hand.

He was a coach and instructor to many, but most importantly he was a loving and devout family man to his wife and soulmate Jackie (V Deg) and their children Aiden, Erin and Cody.

Today we may not understand why he was taken from us too soon, but Paddy will continue to bring a smile to our faces and enrich our lives for years to come through the many wonderful memories we all hold dear in our hearts.

Our thoughts are with his family; Jackie, Aiden, Erin and Cody as well as his friends, family and all who knew him at this difficult time in their lives.

Rest in peace Patrick Timoney 5th Degree “A Husband, A Father, A Friend, A gentleman, A Legend xxx”.

TKD-UK 2nd Goodwill Scottish Championships - 05/06/2012

Saturday the 2nd of June was the date for Taekwon-Do UK?s second Scottish Championships.  After the success of an extra busy event last year, we decided that we must host our Scottish Championships in an International Arena which is big enough to cope with our growing numbers and it did not disappoint.

Our Goodwill event was attended by our stronghold T-UK contingent and welcomed guests from north and south of the border.  Unfortunately, our President Mr Archer could not make this event due to family commitments but his best wishes were past on at the event and his TKD Spirit was still present throughout the duration of these games.  On the day of the competition, our Vice president Mr Ridley, welcomed in guests and seniors from all represented clubs taking part and presented them each with a goodwill award to keep a reminder of what was to be an excellent day of quality Taekwon-Do.  Mr Ridley wished all the 365 competitors the very best of luck, encouraged fair play, sportsmanship and enjoyment of our event.

The competition started with patterns for all age groups, this ensured that rainbow, peewee, junior and adult divisions were active throughout the day from the very start.  The standard of TKD being displayed was impressive and each division had to be hard fought.  After pattern, the sparring, special technique and destruction took place over the 10 competition areas.  The event was a huge success and the feedback from students and visiting groups was very positive, and since our event we have been invited to attend other TKD activities by our new friends.  The competition came to a close at 6pm after finishing the last destruction division, 450 medal winners and some new T-UK Scottish champions.

The groups in attendance were:

Taekwon-Do UK Scotland (Scotia TKD), Taekwon-Do UK England ( Central TKD), Taekwon-Do UK England ( Trident), Taekwon-Do Association England (TAE), Master Wallace Black belt Academy, Master Dunbar Black belt Academy, Club Lee, Robin Blair TKD Academy, Pro Edge Kick Boxing, GMAC, McGowan?s TKD School, UKITF, TAGB, Mark Boydell TKD Academy, Nairn TKD, Derek Gilmour Black Belt Academy plus more individuals.  The competition was electric with all groups showing respect for each other whilst maintaining a very competitive standard.

I would like to thank all the officials, student, Instructors and Parents who made the day a great success.  An extra thank you to students who travelled from down south in England, and also from the top of Scotland.  We have already booked our hall for our next Scottish event which will be held on the last Saturday in May 2013 in Stirling, I hope to see you all there with even more entries and events for competitors.

Anniversary of the Founder

9th November was 93rd anniversary of birthday of founder of Taekwon-Do ITF, gen. Choi Hong Hi, the first President of International Taekwon-Do Federation – ITF.

We will remember gen. Choi Hong Hi not only as a founder of Taekwon-Do but also as a great personality, master and teacher who gave the meaning of life to many people. His part will stay forever with us when we will be continuing the work of his life.

General Choi was the man who without his perseverance and indomitable spirit we would not have an art called Taekwon-Do to practice.

1st Annual Ben Nevis Assualt - 06/09/2011

10 members of Taekwon-Do Bellshill travelled to Fort William on the 3rd of September for what we hope to be our first annual climb of Britains highest peak Ben Nevis.

The weekend started at 8 am on Saturday morning when we left bellshill for our trip north. after a 90 minute drive we took a rest stop at the famous Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum. Arriving in Fort William at 11am we managed to have our tents pitched just in ehough time to catch a glimpse of the runners taking part in the Ben Nevis race, a yearly race up and down Nevis, the record for the race being 1hr 25mins. The reaminder of saturday was taken up by a BBQ and some general childish behavior by all. Day 2 properly kicked of at 9.50am when we were finaly packed up and standing at the beginning of the Nevis Trail to begin our climb. The Asscent took us a respectable 4hrs and with the two smallest kids Erin 9 & Ryan 10 leading the pack for almost all of the way up. We were very fortunate to have had fantastic weather on the mountain which allowed for some great photos from all points on the way up and down.

Congratulations to all who took part in this first of many Ben Nevis climbs.
